[ Close Call · a game · dice roguelite ]

Bank the dice.
Land on the number.

Ten targets, five dice, three rolls each. Bank what you want and roll the rest — but your total only ever grows, so one more point can just as easily carry you past the number. Going over hurts exactly as much as stopping short.

— Two ways to play

Pick your poison

  • 01

    Free pick

Take any dice you like, one at a time. Full control over what you bank and what you send back for another roll — the forgiving way to chase the number.

  • 02

    Faces

Bank a number instead of a die, and every die showing it goes in together. Control is coarse on purpose, which is exactly what makes an exact hit worth something.

— A run that grows

Chips, charms and the gold die

  • // close

    Landing close pays chips

Hit the target dead on and you are paid the most; the further off, short or over, the less you keep. Chips are the currency of a single run.

  • // market

    The market opens between rounds

A free charm on rounds 2, 4, 6 and 8, and a stall selling a fourth roll, a spare die or a free reroll — one round each. Spend your chips or hold them.

  • // gold-die

    The gold die

One counter in twenty carries the gold die: ten chips, yours for the rest of the run, and the only die you set by hand instead of rolling.

  • // upgrades

    Coins buy permanent upgrades

Finished runs pay coins, and coins carry over — a lead d4, a steel d8, an heirloom charm, a sixth die. Each run leaves you a little stronger.

— Built small

Two minutes, all yours

  • // fast

    About two minutes a run

Ten rounds, one score, and the itch to beat it. Short enough to fit anywhere, sharp enough to keep pulling you back.

  • // offline

No ads, no purchases, no account

No internet needed either. The whole game runs on your phone, with nothing to buy and nothing to sign up for.

  • // local

    Everything stays on your phone

Scores, statistics and purchases are saved in local storage on your device. Nothing is collected, nothing is sent anywhere.

  • // boards

    Two separate leaderboards

Free pick and Faces keep their own boards, because the scores are not comparable — each mode is its own game to master.

Questions

What kind of game is it?
A dice roguelite about getting close. Every round draws a target between 6 and 25; you have five dice and three rolls, and your total only ever grows — so pushing for one more point can carry you clean past the number. Going over hurts exactly as much as stopping short.
When is it out?
Soon. Close Call is being readied for the stores now. Want a mail the day it ships? Send one and you will get one — no list, no newsletter, just a single reply.
Android or iOS?
Both are planned. Android is furthest along; iOS follows. There is no firm date yet.
Does it cost anything?
No. Close Call is free, with no in-app purchases and no ads. Everything in the game is earned by playing.
Does it need the internet?
Never. The game works entirely offline. There is no account and no server — nothing about your play leaves the phone.
Is there gambling?
No. There are dice and virtual chips, but nothing is wagered, there is no casino, and no real money is ever involved. Chips and coins only ever buy things inside the run.
